Music in the Subte, trying Mate and Dulce de Leche

I won't begin this post with saying sad things.. so I'll say: Germany has won the world cup! congratulations.
Argentina lost in the final :( but that also means that they are second! And most of the Argentinians here were really happy about that because it was the first time after 24 years they got through the quarter finals. The day after the match, the football players went back to Argentina and the people were waiting for them at the airport or at Av. nueve de Julio. It is near my school and it was so full of people.

My dad told me many times that I need to be really carefull with my things and myself because it is more 'dangerous' in here than in Europe. Of course it is a bit true, but I think it is more likely to die in  a traffic accident than being robbed! The traffic here scares me. All the cars and busses just go everywhere the want.
I'd rather take the Subte (the subway), it is way faster and it looks safer to me :p. And I really like that many people make music in the Subte. People do that in many coutries but here they don't only play in the metrostation but also in the metro. Here is a video of a guy playing piano in the Subte. Luciana, her brother Manuel and I just had lunch and were on our way home;)

My Argentinian friends made me try some typical argentinian food. For example Dulce de Leche, i loove it. They eat dulce de leche with everything! they make cakes with dulce de leche, ice cream of dulce de leche, dulce de leche with banana, dulce de leche pancakes, dulce de leche on toast, y mucho más!One of the nicest things they make with dulce de leche are Alfajores, a kind of cookie. When you go to the supermarket you can buy soo many different kinds of Dulce de Leche:

Another typical thing from Argentina is Mate. It is a drink. First I thought it was something similar to tea, but it's not. When watching the video you see that it looks different.  It is a social drink and with that I mean that most of the people only drink it with other people. The weirdest thing is that they all drink it from the same cup. The drink is called Mate because of the 'cup' you drink from is called 'Mate'. I am sorry Argentinians but I didn't really like mate..

If you know some Spanish speaking youtubers, you will have recognized the boy in this picture haha. It is Julián Serrano. Apparently he is also an actor in a play, that's why there was a big picture of him.
I watch too many youtubers, but mostly youtubers from the uk, usa or australia. Here I discovered a whole other 'youtube world' of spanish speaking people haha! so much fun

Escuela en Buenos Aires

I love traveling! Sightseeing is a big part of traveling so I like that. But being a part of a whole new culture is much more fun! That's why I really like going to school here in Buenos Aires. Every day I go to school by Subte (the subway) just like all the other people who are going to school or their work. And that's also why the Subte is so incredibly full of people in the mornings haha. But luckily I don't need to travel that long to go to school. My school is in the centre of Buenos Aires, very close to Av. Nueve de Julio :) The school looks beautiful and I really like the lessons.

I had French for 5 years at my high school back home, but I have the feeling I have learned more spanish in a week than 5 years of French. That's also because I hear people speaking spanish all the time of course.

Last week my school organised a trip to La Boca, which is a really nice neighbourhood in Buenos Aires. I made a video of that trip;) If you'd like to see it, you can click here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toJU-XfTvXI And I also took some photos

Last night I was invited to the birthday party of a friend of my friends Natalia and Luciana;) It was really nice because I got to meet some more people from Buenos Aires, who are called Porteños.

And the final match, Germany-Argentina begins in an hour !!! And I am for Argentina, obviously. Vamos Argentinaaaaaaa. But...I actually think Germany is going to win though haha. We'll see!

Here are some other pictures I took ;)

Have a nice day everyone!

How i got to Buenos Aires, but landed in Uruguay..

And this is already the end of my very first day here in Buenos Aires. It has been the longest day ever, and the most exciting at the same time! I knew that i had to sit in an airplane for 14 hours, but i actually realised it when I was on there. I watched some movies but I couldnt really sleep much during the flight, approximately 3 hours in total. It was not the best experience.. also because i got sick the last two hours:/ But i was still alive cause the plane didnt crash so that was good :p
When there were just 50 minutes of flying left, the pilot announced that we couldnt go to Buenos Aires at the moment because of too much fog, so we went to Montevideo in Uruguay. And now comes the best part: we had to wait for 2,5 hours inside the airplane till we could fly to buenos aires, and couldnt even get out.... But i was still happy, because I just landed in South America for the first time of my life !!
So after 2,5 hours we flew to Buenos Aires, and after a short flight i had finally arriveddd! Natalia and Luciana picked me up at the airport, who i had not seen in a year! I met them in London, where I studied last summer. It was great to see them again !

The rest of the day we walked around some parts of Buenos Aires. And i had Merienda for the first time. Merienda is the meal between lunch and dinner.

I didnt take many interesting pictures or videos, but i wanted to share a few. Firstly of course an airplane pic, and i also like the Argentinian schoolbus; escolares. And something really weird: while we were waiting for the bus there obviously came several busses but also horses with carriages.

I'm looking forward to these 6 weeks! and to seeing the football matches with an argentinian commentator:p Hopefully Argentina and the Netherlands will both win saturday so they'll have to play against eachother! must be fun

The next adventure // BUENOS AIRES

It has been a long time since I've written something about traveling. But that will change from now on! Because my next trip is getting closer and closer. Only 8 days left till I am going to Buenos Aires in Argentina :D I will be there for 6 weeks, discovering the south american lifestyle and learning how to speak spanish.
I'll be writing about everything in Buenos Aires and my experiences on this blog!

my very first performance

There is a show every year at my school. I never had the confidence to audition for it. But this year my friend Christa and I wanted to perform on that show! So we made a medley of Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars songs :) We passed the audition and they asked if we wanted to do another song as well. So we did Confetti by Tori Kelly! You can copy this link to watch that song if you'd like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4wuI1q1qsU

I hope you like them!
